Developer Hines, along with Singapore-based partner Pontiac Land Group, has tapped Douglas Elliman Development Marketing as exclusive marketing and sales agent for their Midtown Manhattan condominium, known as 53 West 53. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning starchitect Jean Nouvel, the 82-story skyscraper offers 145 luxury units.

Originally owned by the Museum of Modern Art, Hines purchased the 0.4-acre lot next to MoMA in 2007. Construction of the tower began in 2014, with Lendlease as main contractor. At its completion in 2019, the skyscraper rose 1,050 feet as the third tallest building in New York City.

Situated at 53 West 53rd St., the property’s residences provide views of Central Park and the Hudson River. Floorplans range between one- and four-bedroom options, spanning from more than 1,000 to 7,900 square feet.

Shari Scharfer-Rollins will spearhead Douglas Elliman’s efforts, as director of sales. The marketing team comprises Agents Fredrik Eklund, John Gomes, Frances Katzen, Jade Chan and Matthew Mackay.

LUXURY AMENITIES

The high-end amenity package includes a library with a fireplace on the ground floor, a double-height lounge on the 46th floor, designed by Thierry Despont, who also created the lobby. The high-rise provides a private theater, formal dining room, double-height wine tasting room and children’s playroom.

The custom kitchens include back-painted glass cabinetry with polished nickel detailing and marble countertops. The bathrooms have limestone floors, marble feature walls and polished nickel fittings and accessories.

Residents will have access to a 15,000-square-foot wellness center, managed by The Wright Fit, that offers a sauna, steam and massage rooms, 65-foot lap pool, squash court and golf simulator. Additional amenities, such as private and bicycle storage, studio and one-bedroom accessory suites, are also available for purchase. All residents will receive a deeded membership to MoMA.

The property has two model residences available. The larger one occupies the entire 65th floor and was designed by Rebecca Robertson. Spanning 6,448 square feet, the residence is priced at $46.7 million. The second, 3,020-square-foot, Brad Ford-designed unit is listed at $9.7 million.

In early 2021, Douglas Elliman was appointed to market another Manhattan condominium, in Chelsea. Designed by Kutnicki Bernstein Architects, the 15-story Graydon Chelsea offers 30 boutique-style units.
